Book suggestions...
Since I've got a bunch of irregular readers here and a bunch of new people who pop by from the RQ site, I was wondering if any of you could make some suggestions on good attachment reading material.
I figure I should get started, even though we're a good couple years away from referral. Please leave a comment, even if the book you've suggested is already listed. I figure I'll probably get the book(s) that is/are most suggested. Thanks!

Hi - just popped by from the RQ site. We have a 7/23/2007 LID, so we have even longer to wait! I have heard that Parenting Your Internationally Adopted Child is really good, plus it's pretty new which is nice. It's up to date. But, I am reading Toddler Adoption: The Weaver's Craft right now and have really enjoyed it. The toddler part refers to kids 12 mo. old and up. But, I find the information helpful for adopting kids even younger than that. I have a yahoo group that is a China Adoption Book Club and we're reading that one now. We may read Attaching in Adoption next if you are interested. Let me know!
I don't just have a list, I have a library! I can email you a list if you like.
The one I'm hearing a lot about right now and will be ordering is 'Taming the Child While It's a Kitten' by Nancy Thomas. (2 CDs and a book) The shipping is very steep to Canada but I've been in contact with her company and they emailed me (only 2 hours ago) and offered to package and ship our package if we put a group of errors together. Let me know if you're interested.

When Love Is Not Enough & Taming the Kitten are books being read right now by some of my friends. They said they're a MUST READ. So I've added them to my wishlist.

I second (or third or fourth or whatever) The Connected Child, The Out-of-Sync Child, Taming the Tiger While it is Still a Kitten and The Adoption Toolbox.
I also read Attaching in Adoption and Toddler Adoption: A Weaver's Craft and found those very helpful. Then again, The Connected Child and Taming the Tiger weren't out when we first arrived home with the Tongginator.
I also highly recommend reading - ahead of time - post adoption blues by Karen Foli. This is good for the parent side of attachment that books rarely focus on.
Numbers 1-5 of what Liz said are favs of mine too as well as Weaver's Craft.

I could not read Attaching in Adoption- it was a bit too dry for me, but loved Adoption Parenting- it was biased toward China a bit (and PI kids) and covered ALL aspects of adoption parenting, but their sections on attachment were really well written. It's my fave adoption/parenting book that I own. And I didn't read it (haven't, I should say) cover to cover, but in pieces. Good to have on your shelf :O)
