You oughta be in pictures...
The bathroom demo and reno is FINALLY complete (and in record time I might add)! I can't tell you how happy I am with it. It took just over a week and it looks so good, the pictures just don't do it justice. I'm so glad that the old bathroom (the one where it looked like the 70s threw up) is gone!
So, without further adieu...The pics are up for all of you and for Josh as well, since he's still away on business and he's checking in on the blog from afar. :)
Our brown bathroom:
The colour on the wall isn't as dark as it shows in this picture, I couldn't get the 'true' colour to come out, but it's a light beige-y brown (called "bluffs" by Benjamin Moore). Unfortunately the picture makes the colour look like it's mustard, but trust me, it's not...
We got the fixture at Home Depot of all places and I'm really happy with it. I'm glad to be rid of the really fugly monstrosity that we had hanging in our bathrooms before.
This is our new floor which is just SO yummy and luxurious.
The wall which is just so...GRAH! To say that I love it would be an absolute understatement.
Looking at the tiles and the tub together really completes the look. Can you believe that the saleslady tried to talk me out of my choice? She told me that the tiles:
a) didn't match
b) wouldn't match the tub
Yeah, ok...
Here's just a simple shot of the new shower...yay!
This is the new floor in our en suite bathroom, it looks just like marble but not nearly as cha-chingy. We painted the walls in this room a light grey called "iced cube silver" (by Benjamin Moore).
New en suite walls (and ceiling).
Rub-a-dub-dub...the completed look.
Ta-da!
We also painted our powder room on the main floor. The previous owners had painted it a (nasty) pink, but I changed it to "decorator's white". It was starting to make me twitch everytime I went in there...
Unfortunately none of the pictures came out in their 'true' colours, but the bathrooms look SO good now.

23...
Today marks our 23 month LIDiversary and I'm marking it alone as Josh is away on business (again). We'll celebrate it together with a cake or something when he returns...
This month I added a charm that Sam chose a while back and it's significance really hit home the last couple of days.
I need to remember to "Just Keep Swimming"...

Toronto propane explosion
Josh and I woke up this morning to what we thought was the sound of LOUD thunder just before 4:00...little did we know what it really was until later. We live about 20 minutes away from the accident site (by car) yet we still heard it.
As it stands right now, a 25 year veteran firefighter (a district chief) lost his life in the blaze and there is a worker who is missing. I believe about 18 people were injured, and most of those were 'minor'. Don't take this the wrong way, but it could have been SO much worse.
By the way, the propane depot is located in the middle of a residential neighbourhood...yes, you read that right.

Bathroom demolition...
I'll be SO glad to get rid of this...*
and this...I HATE linoleum.*
If you need to take a shower, you've come to the WRONG place. We're currently in the midst of replacing both showers, all the tiles on the walls and the floors (as you can plainly see from the pictures below...
The current timeline on the bathroom demo should be about a week, give or take. We're doing both showers at the same time because we're gluttons for punishment. We've been having a lot of issues with our house as of late, many of which I haven't blogged about because I've been really pissed off about our "dream house".
About two weeks ago I noticed a crack in our living room ceiling and a couple of water spots. I couldn't tell if they were old ones or new ones, but there were enough to warrant getting a plumber in. He looked at the bathroom upstairs and noticed that the tiles were "puckering" and I knew that there was grout missing so we decided that the logical choice was to replace the tiles in one of the upstairs bathrooms. We obviously stopped using the shower in that bathroom immediately.
He looked at the other bathroom and noticed a similar issue. The following day, after Josh had taken a particularly long shower I noticed another water spot on our living room ceiling and more puckering...so we decided to demo both bathrooms. Yay us!
Now, keep in mind that we hadn't used that shower in TWO WEEKS. When the guys came in today to demo the bathroom, when they pulled the tiles off the wall, the back of the tiles were STILL wet. Can I get an EWWWW (and yes, if you look at the picture, that IS mold). We're really lucky that we did this when we did, because none of the water seeped into the insulation or into the two by fours.
Have you ever wondered what goes on behind your wall? Perhaps, wondered what the previous owner did, or didn't do? This is evidence of a previous roof leak. The guys are going to go up to our roof during the week and just double check that our roof is ok and make sure it IS, in fact, an old leak. We've already had our roof looked at this year so I'm sure it's fine (and it was dry)...but it never hurts to get a second opinion. Needless to say I FREAKED when I saw this...
By the end of the day, the preliminary plumbing was done and we found out that the tubs are in good working order...so they don't need to be replaced. BONUS! The plumber showed up with a nifty little camera so he could see in behind the tub and down the wall. We DID find out that the old owners did a patch job on the living room ceiling...it was a really neat tool. The contractors also put up a bit of the wall...so things are coming along. I'm glad something is FINALLY going well.
Stay tuned tomorrow for more pictures! I'm so excited...yeah, I need a life. ;)
*Sorry people, I didn't bother to clean the tub or the walls before I took the pictures...so sue me or report me to Martha Stewart. ;)

What a thoughtful hubby!
Today is our 12th wedding anniversary and since Josh is away (again) on business, he arranged to send me flowers. *sigh*
It seems so hard to believe that it's been 12 years, it certainly doesn't feel like it's been that long. We were talking about it not too long ago and this September we'll have known each other for 20 years. We were high school sweethearts and as the song goes, literally I was 16 going on 17. To this day, I still remember his ever-so-suave pick-up line..."So, I hear you broke up with M. Wanna go out for coffee?" My Josh, he's a keeper. ;)
...and the rest, as they say, is history.
