This morning as I was leaving the house, I walked over to the pine tree to check out the robins and I heard little chirps coming from the branches. I looked a little closer and thought to myself "well that's odd, those don't look like *my* robins". You know why? They were OUT of the nest! What a difference a day makes. There were two of them on the branches, the third must have already flown away.
By the time I ran back inside the second one flew away, so all I was left with was the 'runt' of the nest. He was sitting on the branch rocking his head back and forth like he was listening to an invisible iPod with a really good Bob Marley song playing. I was a bit worried about him, but he just continued to sway back and forth...
Then just as Josh and I were convinced that he was injured or worse, he let out a giant PEEP, flapped his wings, turned away from me, and flew off the tree limb. *sigh*
I decided to follow him for a little bit and snap a few more pictures and enjoy the last few moments with him, because I knew I'd probably never see him again.
I did see their mom come back this afternoon, she landed in my backyard (I could tell it was her, she has a very distinctive mark on her chest). She probably got that from the fight she got into with the squirrel when she was protecting her chicks.
Anyways, I took a picture of the empty nest this afternoon. Hopefully next year the nest will be full again...

Wow, it really didn't last long! The chickies are on their way!
Sigh. They grow up so fast, don't they?
So cute! Great pictures!
