I was reading the news today, and aside from some really depressing news, I heard about this. For those of you who grew up in Toronto (and surrounding area) in the 60s and 70s, you should remember Uncle Bobby. I remember my brother (AKA Ugly) used to watch it all the time growing up...though I don't know if he'd actually admit it. ;)
Sadly, I have to say that I only vaguely remember the show. The one thing that sticks out in my mind is "Bimbo the Birthday Clown", which might explain my warped sense of humour. Bimbo was a cardboard cut-out and Uncle Bobby would always announce children's birthdays while standing beside him. I *think* there was a song that went along with it, but it's been too many years since I last heard it and I no longer recall what it was...
(By the way, if you look at "7 o'clock" on that photo, you'll see a little picture of Bimbo.)
*I wonder what kind of searches I'm going to get based on the title of THIS post...

the song goes,
Bimbo, Bimbo,
On the Uncle Bobby show.
(lather,rinse, repeat.)
FYI: Uncle Bobby was arrested at some point a long ways back for molestation. GREEEEAAATTT.
All you needed to add to this post to get the most interesting search hits are are the words: blonde, stripper, porn, and ice cream. Don't ask about the ice cream...just add it... lol!
I have never seen that show. But I was a BIG Mr. Dressup fan....:-)
We had a local kid celeb here also. Magic Tom was his name. Sad to hear of their passing.
Keep smilin!
Clowns are bad enough...but Bimbo? That just seems like two concepts that should NOT go together ;0)
Aaah... how sad. I remember Uncle Bobby. And Bimbo. I think my sister hated him- might have been a fear of clowns!
OMG! I had completely and totally forgotten about Uncle Bobby. Thanks Rhonda I'll now have to go back into therapy. Anyway I use to like Mr. Dress Up to. He actually had a cottage near friends of ours and I had my first beer with him and my dad. Now that was weird!
That's sad. Sadder if the other stuff is true.
I grew up near Mr Dress Up!
Ha, ha, ha, ha. I remember that show!! I think the song was "Bimbo, Bimbo, the Happy Birthday Clown" and then what Crazy Lady wrote!! It wasn't one of my favorites but it was somewhat entertaining!! Thanks for the memory. I liked "Hot Fudge" better (Detroit Channel 7 I think).
I have a vague memory of Bimbo. Scary. I loved Mr. Dress-up though! The papaya loves him too (CBC was still showing his reruns until about a year ago).
Of course Senja would know the words! LOL!!!
Darn. I was hoping for something more "adult" with the title of the post.
