The Adventures of Madonna and "Adoption Boy" ***Updated

Ok, so this morning I read this article, doesn't it make it sound like her son is now a superhero..."Adoption Boy"? Couldn't they have come up with a better headline? Seriously.

Yes, I know, it can also be seen as he's going to have a 'better' life with her than staying in Malawi. Assuming, of course, that 'better' implies that he won't want for anything. Personally though, I don't take it from that angle. As all of you know, who have read the blog (or have emailed me) for a while, I'm quite opinionated about these kinds of topics...

So the boy was escorted out of the country by four adults. Anyone want to bet that not one of them was Madonna or her husband? If she's so 'gung-ho' on adoption, why couldn't she be there?

I heard that she gave a $3,000,000 donation to the orphanage and about $10,000 to the boy's father; which is probably, and unfortunately, more money than this man knows what to do with. In a poverty-striken country like Malawi, the chances that he would ever see this kind of money in his lifetime are sadly, slim to none.

Also, how did she get them to waive the clause in adoption law there that states that the adoptive parent(s) have to live there for a year? My, my, what $3,000,000 won't buy...

Any takers on when her 171H runs out? When did she go for her fingerprinting? Did she take time out of her touring schedule to have a police check? :P

I'm sorry guys, stars who adopt children and don't have to jump through all the hoops that we all have had to, really pisses me off.

Feel free to comment or flame...I can take it. ;)

***In typical CNN fashion, they decided to rewrite the article from this morning which was entitled "Madonna's adoption boy arrives in London", so now the title of my post doesn't make sense anymore. Go figure.

Money and celebrity afford many perks as we know.

It's easier to adopt, have minimal financial worries, take great vacations and...hey, even kill your ex-wife if you have fame.

I wouldn't want it though. I'll take my turn with everyone else and enjoy my quieter 'ordinary' life.

I am right there with ya! Why could she not give the donation to the orphanage and to the father to....oh I don't know...raise his son with!?!? I don't want to start as this issue with Madge really p's me off. It is frustrating BIG TIME!

Keep smilin!

With that kind of money (Madge's donation) - the father may have been able to find a way to care for his son?

don't get me going again, I already have my panties in a wad over this one. I heard the law is actually 18 months in the country.
All of these stars could use their fame and pull to get positive things done in the IA world like an extenstion for us on the I171H, and not have to contend with the wait and the money associated with refiling it when it expires and we are all still waiting. This adoption has me seething!!!!
Congratulations on your LID-ours is the 9-20, so maybe we end up together...

I second WZgirl's comment!

HUMMMMMMMMM Bet she didn't have the wait we do, amazing what money can do huh? I just hope for the little boy's sake it isn't just a publicity scam and that some random nanny raises the little boy. I guess all we can do is pray that she truely has the little boy's well being at heart.

I would agree if there was a wait. But I heard that there is NO wait in this poor country because there has never been a need for foreign adoptions and they have never allowed adoptions because a} nobody in the country can afford to adopt and take on another child and b] the country is so poor that nobody from any other country has wanted to. So I say, adopt away, it's about the kids, not us. I would be ticked if there was an adoption line at the door and a celebrity skipped right passed our very long horrific wait, like if she went to China and passed our LID.

Tracy,

Actually I heard that there is a wait of sorts, you have to be in the country for X number of months (which the original article said was either 12 or 18 months). But of course since CNN tweaked the article, that piece of information is strangely missing now...

I believe "Adoption Boy" is in the same Super-Hero Union as "Holy Crap Girl" (inside joke)

On a serious note, do I like the way this looks - that she probably "bought" this child in a sense? Not at all. Do I like the fact that with celebrity all things seem to come incredibly easy and rules are waved? Nope. Can I wax poetic about this and that, regarding how I REALLY feel about the whole situation? Sure I could (and I don't mean that anyone shouldn't!)... But in the end, this child got to go home with a mom and dad instead of languish in this orphanage. If I can just focus on that, then the rest of it doesn't mean squat.
